Thousands of people displaced in CAR

OverĀ  170,000 people have been displaced within Central African republic (CAR) since December 2012 when Seleka rebels waged war against the seating government which they later managed to overthrow on March 24th 2013.

There was reportedly widespread looting in Bangui city and other towns during the take over by Seleka rebels which has contributed to shortage of necessities.

According to humanitarian organizations, apart from those displaced within the country, more than 32,000 others have fled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon and Chad.
The humanitarian organizations further said that apart from all schools closing down, many injured people are languishing at hospitals especially in the capital Bangui where they are receiving minimal attention due to lack of drugs and adequate

‘There is total blackout in Bangui after electricity went off.’ said humanitarian worker, Bill Agabo.

Acting humanitarian coordinator Zakaria Maiga has urged all parties in Central Africa republic to respect human right rights. He said, ‘Killing of people should stop. All parties should provide security for the people of Bangui and everywhere in the country. They should also respect international humanitarian and human rights law.’

There are fears that food shortage will soon hit thousands of people in the country since they have not grown food for a long time due to insecurity.
