The most recent meeting of the Council Working Group on Internet-related Public Policy Issues (CWG-Internet) invited all member states to submit views on the role of governments in 12 policy areas highlighted in Council Resolution 1305, Annex 1.
Because the United States firmly believes that the role of governments in Internet Governance should not be debated or determined by governments alone, we welcome your input in crafting the United States’ submission to CWG-Internet. Responses are appreciated by Friday, January 10, and can be directed to Andrew Harris – cwg.internet@state.gov.
The CWG-Internet developed the first question below for the response of member states. Questions 2 and 3 come from the U.S. Government and are important for us to consider as we develop our response to the CWG-Internet. Views from all stakeholders on each of the questions are greatly valued. The chart below includes each of the 12 public policy issues identified by Council Resolution 1305, Annex 1; it may be helpful in crafting your response.
Recognizing the scope of work of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on international Internet-related public policy matters, represented by the list of topics in Council Resolution 1305 Annex 1 which was established in accordance with decisions of ITU membership at the Plenipotentiary Conference, the Council Working Group on International Internet Related Public Policy invites Member States to provide their position on following question:
- What actions have been undertaken or to be undertaken by governments in relations to each of the international Internet-related public policy issues identified in Annex 1 to Resolution 1305 (adopted by Council 2009 at the seventh Plenary Meeting)?”
- What role, if any, does the ITU have in facilitating governmental activity regarding these public policy issues?
- What international venues are most appropriate for governments to seek assistance on these public policy issues?
