U.S.A. Wins Against Ghana 2-1
U.S.A. team prevails against Ghana, it was both teams first match of the week. They won with a score of 2-1, both teams desperately struggled against each other after the initial shot by Clint Dempsey within 12 seconds of the game starting.
Unfortunately, it seemed to seal the fate of Ghana. Fans of Ghana may have thought it was a fluke, with the U.S.A. scoring so early and then battling against their foes for a good while. Along the way the U.S. had two players injured, with Jozey Atidore pulled out of the game due to a strained hamstring. Dempsey was kicked in the face while being in the wrong place at the wrong time when a Ghanaian player attempted a high flying kick at the ball. He suffered a bloody nose but remained in the game.
Ghana felt the pressure as Sulley Muntari, of Ghana, almost broke into a scuffle with Jermaine Jones, of the U.S.A. Though it was quickly defused, one could feel the tension between the two teams as Ghana’s coach, Appiah, glared on coldly at the game and U.S.A’s coach, Klinsmann was animated with frustration and joy.
The first half ended with the U.S. in the lead and Ghana with nill. When the game started up again Ghana’s Andre Ayew scored for his team and less than five minutes after, John Brooks Jr., scored for the U.S. It was there that the game had become simply a battle of attrition for the U.S.A. as the clock counted down and they were focused on holding out with Ghana prodding on against time.
With this win the U.S. may have redeemed themselves in the eyes of their fans after losing the last two World Cups to Ghana, both teams, the U.S. more so, perhaps carrying some bad blood after those encounters and this one too, maybe, indicative of the tables turning on Ghana in future World Cup games.
Nigeria and Iran also faced each other today, earlier this afternoon with neither team scoring a point, and it ending in a draw.
