In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. It is with a great sense of privilege that we write to you during the blessed month of Ramadan in our quest to build Co-Op City’s first Masjid. Co- Op City is the largest Cooperative Community in the world with a good number of Muslim residents without a Masjid to congregate for prayers and other services. In November 2013, Archbishop Angelo Rosario, a Christian and Chairman of The Bronx Clergy Task Force, and his wife Bishop Nancy Rosario, have decided to invite some of their Muslim colleagues to start Friday Prayers at Room #9 on Dreiser Loop Community Center, next to their church, in order to pursuit an eventual establishment of a ‘Co –Op City Mosque’. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/bronx/new-mosque-opens-co-op-city-article-1.1504394
This interfaith event was attended by local elected officials, clergy, the students of Islamic Leadership School and some Muslim residents of Co-op City. The first Jumuah Prayer was then held on Friday, November 1, 2013.
Now, the time has come to build the first Masjid in Co-Op City for its growing Muslim families. $1,200, 000 to 1,400, 000 million dollars is the estimated cost of building this Masjid. For the sake of Allah (SW) alone, we’re seeking funding for this noble cause. No donation or loan is too small or big, they’re all blissfully accepted. “Whosoever shares in building a masjid for Allah, even if it is as small as a bird’s nest, Allah (S.W.T.) will build for him a house in Paradise.” (Ahmad)
