EAST AFRICAN CULTURES AND BEHAVIORS ARE GETTING ERODED

Officials from the east African community (EAC) secretariat are extremely worried over the fast eroding of cultures and morals of east Africans.
They say that most of the cultures and morals are being abandoned by the people in the east African countries and instead they are diverting to western cultures which have caused more problems to the population.
The east African community is comprised of 6 member countries including Kenya,Tanzania,Uganda, Rwanda,Burundi, and South Sudan. The headquarters of community is in Arusha Tanzania.
The director social affairs at the east African community secretariat, Mary Makofu said,”There is more need for champions of the integration process to put much more emphasis on promoting culture, morals and arts among that our fore grand fathers carried on for over the years.”
Makofu wants the member states to balance between tourism promotion and culture as a way to preserve all the riches that God gave to the region since culture and arts contribute 45% towards regional economic growth.
Thomas Mwembe, also a member of secretariat said that it is not good for the local people to abandon their culture and morals and start copying whatever the whites do.
”Local people think that all that the the people from western world do is good and worth copying. That is why they have stopped respecting their culture and are getting involved in habits like smking opium,over-drinking lack of respect of the elderly, and many others.” said Mwembe.
Mwembe said that there is need for leaders in east African to tell those they lead that they should not abandon their culture and morals and also copy only the good elements from western world.
