WHO TO IMMUNIZE OVER 115 AFRICAN CHILDREN NEXT WEEK

Next week children below 5 years in Cameroon, Nigeria, Benin, Ivory Coast, DRC, Central African republic, Liberia, Niger, Mali, Mauritania and Sierra Leone will be immunized against polio, World Health Organization (WHO) has said today.

This is in WHO’s efforts to wipe out the crippling disease in total WHO expects to immunize 115 children.

A statement released today by WHO said ”More than 115 million children are targeted by over 190, 000 vaccinators in 13 African countries central and West African countries.

Although WHO has tried its best to eradicate polio in the last 2 decades by immunizing children, it said that it identified several
polio cases in northern Nigeria although it had previously declared the country as being free of polio.”

Apart from Afghanistan, Nigeria is the other country in the world where polio is still spreading
