Italy steps in to support refugees in Uganda, ships out humanitarian aid materials to assist
On Tuesday, 20th of June, Italy joined the world to support refugees by extending their generous arm to them. It was reported that a humanitarian flight of the Italian Cooperation Agency has departed yesterday to assist South Sudanese refugees in Uganda. This was disclosed in a statement by Alfano, on behalf of the Italian government.
Alfano stated that the ship departed from the United Nations Logistics Base in Brindisi.
“A humanitarian flight of the Italian Cooperation Agency departed yesterday from the United Nations Logistics Base in Brindisi headed to Entebbe in Uganda.”
Italy further disclosed that the aid materials on sail is an exclusive addition to the five million euros in emergency aid allocated for South Sudanese refugees, which Italy set to announce during the coming Kampala Summit. The Minister listed tents, water tanks, first-aid and hygiene kits as some of what is in stock for the refugees.
“The humanitarian shipment consists of tents, water tanks, a water purification unit, first-aid and hygiene kits and waterproofing material for makeshift homes. Its total value, including transportation costs, is of nearly 300,000 euros.”
As published by APO, “The Associazione Centro Aiuti Volontari di Trento (ACAV) will see to the distribution of supplies to the South Sudanese population currently living in Rhino Camp, located in the Arua Region, on the Ugandan Northern border.”
This shipment shall add to “the five million euros in emergency aid allocated for South Sudanese refugees,” to be announced by the Italian government “during the Kampala Summit” as “promoted by the Ugandan Government on 22 -23 June.”
As more and more refugees flee the South Sudan to Uganda, more and more hands rise to support the host community.
