For the past 3 years, South Sudan a young country that received its independence from Sudan on 9 July 2011 has been under civil war. The civil war however, is said to be a conflict between forces of the government and forces of the opposition.

The government forces are led by the country’s President, Salva Kiir and the opposition forces are led by his former first Vice President Riek Machar.

Many people have in the course of war lost their lives and those that have been blessed to live, are forced to flee from the country (South Sudan) seeking refuge from the neighboring countries especially Uganda, which is having the largest number of refugees from South Sudan, according to the UN

While addressing a gathering at the freedom hall on Saturday, Salva Kiir, the President of South Sudan, was reported saying that, “What is destroying us today is ourselves, the greed.”

Speaking this, the president had attended his Vice’s (Dr. James Wani Igga) celebration for his attainment of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

The Vice President, James Wani Igga, graduated from Bulacan State University in the Philippines, in taxation policy and investment.

“People are very greedy. That is why we are holding this name of corruption, that South Sudanese are corrupt,” the President went further with addressing the crowd.

At this point, Salva Kiir advised his Vice President to use his doctorate in developing the country other than destroying it.

“Somebody said a word before about the PhD I want to remind my dear colleague Wani that, his PhD should not also follow the other PhD that brought us trouble in our country. It must be a PhD that is to lead our country to development and progress,” said the President.

While talking about the ongoing situation in South Sudan, the President urged all the political parties to come in and help them (government) in the battle of bringing peace back to the country.

“I am a very peaceful and humble man, I don’t want fighting. Let us close the chapter of war and open another chapter of peace. All the political parties will have to work together with us in order to acquire the peace we all yarn for. There is nothing better that embracing one another, to embrace one another is the best thing we can do,” explained the President of South Sudan.

To the youths, Salva Kiir asked them not to be frustrated by lack of jobs because, as he said, “It is a matter of time and this situation is going to be rectified, and we will move slowly and very smoothly.”
