Ghana initiates One-District-One-Factory projects to favour poor rural communities

Some rural communities in Ghana are suffering largely from poverty and under-development. In order to curb and transform the situation, a ten-member committee has been tasked to survey and identify potentials for each region of the country.

Reports on this has confirmed that the rural poor communities especially women are expected to benefit immensely from government’s flagship initiative, One-District-One-Factory. This is because survey confirmed that the women in these communities are the major concern. This is to enable them assist their families financially by lifting part of the burden of their husbands.

This initiation is of the expectation that every district must identify a key economic potential in each constituency to make good of the one million dollars earmarked for the constituency. This potential will help to sustain the district financially as it will serve as a source of revenue to the surrounding communities.

Further more, at the inauguration and orientation of a ten member team for each region to oversee the Infrastructure Poverty Eradication Program, IPEP, at Dodowa, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said it is unacceptable that some communities still lack basic needs such as potable water and toilet facilities. He promised that every needed facility in every district will be provided.

Also, he said with the one million dollars, each constituency will be able to cater for its needs. He also said that a potential that will continue to create income for the communities will attract investment and there after maintained and sustained. This will no doubt create job opportunities which will eventually lift the communities from poverty. In addition, he confirmed that the government’s vision of shared prosperity for all has come to stay.

Similarly, the Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Johnson said poverty can be reduce with a coherent strategy hence the creation of the ministry is aimed at achieving this. He said the ministry has been established to tackle poverty and it has outlined this as its major objective.

In addition, the Chief of Staff who sworn in the members entreated them to being their expertise to bear to enable government to change the fortunes of the economy. The team has promised to work hard to tackle poverty related problems in these rural communities. It further stated that success must be achieved at the end.

Ghanaians are excited with this development. Many confirmed that it has been long waited for and so its coming is to be commended. The 10 member team has promised to put smiles on the faces of the poor masses. Tranformation is expected to set in soon.
