Nigerians have been tagged around the world to be dishonest in their doings. Several reports have confirmed this thought to be partly wrong. Among these reports is a Nigerian engineer who drew the attention of his bank following a mistaken transfer of over 7.3 million naira (equivalent to about $20,100) into his account.

For security purpose, the man decided to use the social media platform to expose the transfer:
“Dear @DiamondBankNG exactly at this time yesterday 7,310,000.00, seven million three hundred and ten thousand was transferred to my account.”

According to the tweet, a company made the transfer to his account and he was making the report after 24 hour wait for a bank official to contact him. He asked the bank to follow him on Twitter before he sent details of the transfer.

Speaking with some Nigerians concerning this flare for honesty, Mr. Bola said it was really a bold step taken by the honest man:

“Examining the issue from the spiritual and biblical perspective, we are meant to return what doesn’t belong to us but with the situation of things in the country, it will take me much thinking, reminiscing and grace of God to return such.”

The honest man further tweeted after the money had been reversed from his account:

“The moment I got the credit alert, the next thing I thought of was returning it, I never thought otherwise, it wasn’t even a hard decision. I have no desire to argue with anyone. I choose to return it because it does not belong to me, We are not all the same, I want peace of mind. I did not do it for fear, I did it because it was the right thing to do. I was taught to always do the right thing even though it was hard.”

In addition, David Shalom reacted to the kind and honest gesture of the man saying that he did the right:
“Looking at how things are presently in our the world today, people of such moral values are hard to find especially when it involves money. I must say that he is principled, honest, sincere, sweet, in fact I really can’t think of any other adjective to qualify such a person.”

The honest Nigerian man further tweeted to explain the brain behind his honest act:

“In life, we get what we deserve, we will sooner or later get back what we give to the world, it is a boomerang effect. What really belong to us eventually comes by naturally, we do not need to compel anything because that will not help. My money (Your money) will come, when it will come, and with peace of mind I, “We” will enjoy. ‘Honesty still remains the best policy’.

A bank official has confirmed this report. Nigeria still have bountiful of honest people contrary to what the world pictures. Many Nigerians applauded the honest man good deeds and wish that other Nigerians and foreigners would learn from the fact that honesty remains the best policy.
