“I pledge to build a prosperous society” – Ghana President, Akufo-Addo

Ghana has experienced great developments in the recent time. Ghanaians have reportedly confirmed their president to be hard working and dedicated to his duties. Recently, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pledged to build a prosperous society by creating equal opportunities for all and to further raise the standard of living of Ghanaians.

In addition, the President, Akufo-Addo said the country needs a business-friendly environment that would create equal opportunities for all citizens. He also said that every citizen is expected to live by the rule of law and not rule by law:

“I pledge to help build a prosperous society. A society where there is discipline and fairness, where people go about their lives in free and responsible manner. A society where there are decent retirement for the elderly. An open society, protected by well-resourced and motivated security services, and where the rule of law works, and is not a slogan.”

Further more, the president revealed that his government is in to combat corruption in order to protect the people’s interest. He also stated that the government is set for accountability and transparency in its policy implementations:
“The Office of the Special Prosecutor will have the responsibility to investigate and prosecute acts of corruption, free, from predictable claims of witch-hunting. Words can no longer defeat the canker of corruption.”

However, the President made these statements while making an addressing at the opening session of a 4-day Biennial Convocation held in Accra, Ghana. He called on the Christian lawyers around the world to speak out against decadence in the society.

President Akufo-Addo under his administration has been able to transform the country. Amongst his recorded successes are; abolished excise duty on petroleum, abolished levies imposed on ‘kayayei’ by local authorities, abolished levies imposed on religious institutions by local authorities, abolished the 1% Special Import Levy, abolished the 17.5% VAT/NHIL on domestic airline tickets, abolished the 17.5% VAT/NHIL on financial services, abolished the 17.5% VAT/NHIL on selected imported medicines, that are not produced locally.

Also, developments were recorded under culture and tourism. His administration was able to establish a Safety Audit Unit at the Ghana Tourism Authority to conduct safety audits across tourist sites, establish the Creative Arts Council, launched the Presidential Museum at the Christiansborg Castle amongst others.

President Akufo-Addo has promised to fulfill his promises to make Ghana a better place to live. Many Ghanaians also confirmed the view that the present administration has taken and still taking Ghana to level up with the best countries in the world.
