Elmhurst, NY – Earlier this week, NYC Council Member Daniel Dromm (D-Elmhurst, Jackson Heights) joined Bangladesh Awami Volunteer League, USA President Nuruzzaman Sarder and General Secretary Subal Debnath for their organization’s first annual blood drive at Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens.

Bangladesh Awami Volunteer League, USA, which is led by local Bangladeshi community members, collected nearly 10 gallons of blood during their four-hour drive.  The blood has been donated to Elmhurst Hospital Center and will be used to sustain patients who have suffered blood loss.

“I commend Bangladesh Awami Volunteer League, USA for hosting this blood drive in my district,” said Council Member Dromm.  “Blood is often in short supply in New York City.  These blood donations will save many lives and will help the city prepare for an emergency.  It was great to see so many Elmhurst residents come together to contribute to this successful event.
