Following the news of acid attack in Marseille, a woman has been arrested and currently in detention. According to Sky News, the four female American attacked were tourists in the French city. The attack took place at the Saint Charles train station in Marseille.
Sky News, reporting from the Marseille prosecutor’s office, disclosed in their report that the women were sprayed with acid by a 41-year-old woman who has been detained by police.
In the incident, two of the tourists, aged 20 and 21, received facial injuries and have been taken to hospital. It has been confirmed that one of them has a possible eye injury, according to the prosecutor’s office.
However, two other tourists were hit in the legs, according to French media, and have been taken to hospital for shock. It is however noted that all four of the tourists are in their 20s. It is not known where in the US they are from.
From Sky News, it is gathered that the attack is not believed to be terror related as the attacker did not yell out any terror-linked threats, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office said. She added that officials could not be completely certain that there were no terror links at such an early stage of the investigation.
In addition, French media has reportedly described the attacker using the word “déséquilibré”, meaning a psychological imbalance. The disclosed that the incident took place on Sunday morning at Saint-Charles train station in the port city in southern France.
