If there is no justice for the people, let there be no peace for the government – says Kenya’s opposition leader
After his successful petition of the August polls, Raila Odinga takes a step still to oppose the repeat polls Kenya had just on Thursday 26 October, 2017 but in a new style.
Speaking to his had been eagerly waiting supporters, the NASA leader reacted to Uhuru Kenyatta’s landslide win of 98.2% and said he cannot let the results stand since the polls were conducted in a sham manner.
Raila Odinga who pulled out of the repeat elections weeks to the grand day because of issues related to the IEBC, informed that this time he will oppose the results through economic boycotts and peaceful protests.
‘The opposition plans economic boycotts, peaceful processions, picketing and other legitimate forms of protests,’ said Mr. Odinga, who emphasized that demonstrations would be peaceful.
‘If there is no justice for the people, there shall be no peace for the government,’ he added to his remarks.
The 72 year old opposition leader stated that just as the Supreme Court nullified the August 8 polls and sought for credible repeat polls, he will ensure the Court’s ruling happens, as he will conduct a free fair and credible election.
‘We shall see to it that we conduct a free, fair and credible presidential election as ordered by the Supreme Court,’ Odinga promised.
‘The Supreme Court ordered a repeat election held in compliance with the constitution and the law. The order has not been complied with. Therefore, It is in our best interests that we do so sooner rather than later.’
Raila Odinga further stated that if the sham election, the world saw Uhuru winning stands, then it is bound to cause a great mockery of the Kenya elections, which he wouldn’t allow to happen.
‘This election must not stand. If allowed to stand, it will make a complete mockery of elections.’
With Raila’s plans, Kenya is looking forward to having prolonged political instabilities that kicked on September 1, when the Supreme Court nullified the August 8 poll results.
Following the repeat polls that Raila calls sham, a number of Kenyans did not go to the polls following the orders of the NASA leader who asked them to boycott the polls.
The individuals in some counties were seen blocking the roads and lit tires hence completely barring the electoral commissioners from reaching them to cast their votes.
Mr. Odinga earlier announced that he would change his National Super Alliance (NASA) Party to National Resistance Movement Party (NRM).
