India: President orders undergraduate out of convocation venue over hijab
A gold medalist and undergraduate student of mass communication at Pondicherry University has been reportedly denied access to convocation venue.
It was repoted today that Rabeeha Abdurehim, a young, vibrant muslim lady, was denied the privilege to attend the 27th convocation of the institute because she was wearing hijab.
Raneena was not permitted to attend the event when President Tam Nath Kovind was present at the venue because she was wearing a scarf in a different way.
While others were being presented awards and certificates to other students, Rabeena was sent out of the venue.
I really don’t know why I was sent out. But I learnt that when the students demanded to know to the reason, the police responded that ‘may be she wearing her scarf in a different way.
“I was in the hall with other dignitaries before the arrival of the President. As soon as he entered, the police asked me to leave the hall because o was wearing hijab,” she added.
