12-year-old boy killed, several others injured in Nigerian Mosque bombing
Suicide bombers suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram, a terrorist group wreaking havoc in the northern part of the country, have attacked a mosque in Gwoza, Borno State.
The attack, which was reported on Sunday 26th January, 2020, killed a 12-year-old child and several people were injured.
MCR gathered that the suicide bombers forced their way into the mosque while prayer was ongoing.
“Before some persons in the neighbourhood raised the alarm, the attackers had already gained entry into the mosque,” a source said.
Soldiers from 192 battalion of the Nigerian Army later cordoned off the mosque.
Borno State has suffered terrible attacks from Boko Haram. Many villages in the state have been attacked by Boko Haram insurgents.
However, media Coordinator of army operations in the region, Aminu Iliyasu, said many attacks on civilian targets in Borno had been foiled.
“Troops have resolved to sustain efforts until all the remnants of the Boko Haram/Islamic State’s West Africa Province insurgents are completely wiped out,” he said.
