Hewlett Foundation has announced its annual education conference scholarship.

According to the organizers, several Newmark J students, alumni and journalists from community media are expected to attend the education conference this year, with all expenses covered by the foundation.

This means that conference fee, flight or train ticket, hotel, taxis and food will be taken care of by Hewlett Foundation.

The conference, Education Writers Association National Seminar, is scheduled to hold between May 27 and 29 in Orlando.

It is an opportunity for participants to increase their understanding of current education issues in America, and how they affect states, educators and students.

Also they stand a chance to learn the role of tech in classrooms, personalized learning, school shootings and safety, charter schools and cultural competency in a largely white profession.

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation made this grant to the Newmark J-School to broaden the diversity of journalists covering education.

In an interview with the CEO of Muslim Media Corporation, Mutiu Olawuyi, he admonished community media experts to utilize this opportunity offered by the Foundation. He affirmed that the conference would go a long way in widening the horizon of community journalists, especially in the area of education.

“This is a rare golden opportunity every community journalist and students of journalism should grab without hesitation,” Olawuyi said.

“I strongly believe that attendees will never be the same after this conference,” he noted.

“Take advantage of this opportunity to become a better education reporter,” he added.
