Dangote donates N200 million to fight coronavirus in Nigeria

The Aliko Dangote Foundation has pledged a sum of N200 million to support Nigerian government’s effort to curb the spread of corona virus in the country.

The donation was considered as the largest single donation by a corporate organization towards eradicating the deadly disease.

Aliko Dangote Foundation’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ms Zouera Youssoufou, represented by the Health and Nutrition Programme Officer Maryam Shehu Buhari disclosed this on Tuesday 3rd March, 2020.

“The donation was part of the foundation’s cardinal objective of partnering with governments at all levels against the dreaded disease in Nigeria and the rest of Africa,” she said.

Ms Zouera added that N124 million of the total donation would be spent to support facilities that will prevent, assess and respond to health events at point of entry to ensure national health security.

While N36 million worth of facilities for surveillance and epidemiology will be provided by the Foundation to support government’s effort, the remaining N48million will be for case management training of health workers.

Aliko Dangote Foundation was the only donor that appeared at the donor corrdinating meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.
