Locust Damage: Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti receive emergency grant aid

Following the locust damage experienced in Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti, humanitarian assistance in the area of food has been provided through World Food Programme (WFP).

This was disclosed in a statement by the government of Japan on Tuesday March 10th, 2020.

“The government of Japan decided to extend Emergency Grant Aid of seven million and five hundred thousand US dollars in response to the locust damage,” the statement reads.

Kenya received provision support to 80,000 people including children aged 6-59 months and pregnant women to prevent malnutrition and improve their nutritional condition.

The country was also provided with the implementation of resilience building activities to 87,000 small-scale farmers.

Somalia received relief assistance to about 28,000 people to improve their nutritional condition.

In Djibouti, provision support was rendered to almost 1,410 small-scale farming households through resilience building and food assistance.

Meanwhile, Kenya received a sum 3.6 million USD. Somalia was granted 3.1 million USD, while Djibouti received 0.8 million USD.
