Malawi has announced the cases of three persons who recently tested positive.
This was announced during the Malawian president’s address, where he stated that the confirmed cases were a returnees from India, her relative and her domestic worker.
Arthur Peter Mutharika, the Malawian president, while announcing the sad news said, “Sadly, I would like to inform the nation that for the first time, we now have confirmed cases of coronavirus disease in the country.”
“The affected 61 year old female from Lilongwe recently returned from India where she was in contact with a relative who was later confirmed as coronavirus positive. She was in self quarantine for 14 days after arriving in Malawi, but later became symptomatic within 14 days quarantine period.
“The second is a relative to the index patient, while the third is a domestic worker for the index in their household,” he added.
The president further stated that measures to providing initial care and medical management for the three cases are on, and tracing of contacts has commenced immediately.
He concluded by reminding the citizens of the preventable measures of the virus and urged them to be more careful.
“Let me remind Malawians that coronavirus is preventable and that we can save lives if we observe social distancing, proper hand washing and avoid coughing and sneezing into ones hands,” concluded.
