Nigerian police uncover illegal mining in Zamfara, arrest two Chinese nationals
Two Chinese nationals have been arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal mining in Zamfara State.This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday April 27, 2020 by the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, Mohammad Shehu.According to Mr Shehu, the two Chinese nationals, Messrs WANG and CHUN are being interrogated at the command.“The Command had On 19th April, 2020 received information that some foreigners in connection with other unpatriotic Nigerians engaged in illegal mining activities in Kwali, Bukkuyum LGA of the state.“On the strength of the information, on 20th April, 2020, the Commissioner of Police CP Usman Nagogo psc+ led a special task force team to Kwali mining sites to assess and see things for himself. The information proved to be credible one as hundreds of miners scattered as soon as they saw the team,” the statement reads.“Two labourers were however arrested who confirmed the presence of Chinese and Bulkinabe Nationals among others.“The two Chinese Nationals Mr WANG and Mr. CHUN are being interrogated to get more information that could help the course of investigation,” the statement adds.Last year, the federal government banned all mining activities, following the spate of banditry in the state.
