Covid-19: Nigerian politician feeds 800 people every day
Hon Muhammadu Taofeek Adeyemi Alli, member of the country’s House of Representatives, representing Mushin Constituency 1 in Lagos State, has begun feeding people within his constituency.
While disclosing the gesture, Hon Alli noted that the feeding program, which targets about 800 constituents, was aimed at cushioning the effect of the coronavirus pandemic among people in his constituency.
The free food programme, according to him, is designed for everyone in the constituency, either Muslims or Christians, even though it is being carried out during the holy month of Ramadan.
While commenting about the gesture, Hon Alli stated that the initiative would cater for everyone within his constituency. He stressed that it would last through out the lockdown period.
“We must not deceive ourselves. My people are feeling the impact of the lockdown,” he said.
“It is expected to take care of these people. I must commend the efforts of the state government. But, I must complement the government on my own part, in my little way.
“I have decided to make sure feed at least 800 people in within my constituency throughout this lockdown. And I must add that the feeding is not limited to Muslims. This is not Ramadan feeding programme,” he added.
Meanwhile, the legislator urged people to comply with the directive on social distancing while receiving the food.
