The National Football league has announced that all the 2020 seasons would be scheduled and played in the United States due to the spread of coronavirus pandemic to ensure wellbeing of players, personnel and fans.
While announcing this on Monday May 4, 2020, NFL Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy & Growth Officer, Christopher Halpin, stated that it was expected of NFL to release the regular schedule for the season later this week.
The announcement was made after proper consultation with clubs, nationaland local governments, medical authorities, NFL players association and international stadia partners.
Halpin said, “After considerable analysis, we believe the decision to play all our games domestically this season is the right one for our players, our clubs, and all our fans in the US, Mexico and UK.”
“We greatly appreciate the support of our governmental and stadium partners in Mexico and the United Kingdom, who all agree with this decision, and we look forward to returning for games in both countries in the 2021 season,” he continued.
“We also thank our incredible fans in those territories for their passionate support of the NFL. We will continue to serve them through our outstanding media partners and by being active supporters of both grassroots football and COVID-19 relief efforts in Mexico and the UK,” added Christopher.
The NFL had initially scheduled a game to be played at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, two games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, and other two at Wembley Stadium also in London.
With this development, The Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins would now be playing all their home games this season in the United State at their home stadia.
