Covid-19: Oman records 372 new cases, total rises to 6,000

On Wednesday 20, 2020 Oman recorded 327 new coronavirus cases bringing the total number of cases to 6,043 in the country.

Among the new cases are 152 Omani citizens and 220 non-Omani expatriates.

Omani Ministry of Health announced the confirmed new cases in a statement.

“The Ministry of Health announces the registration of (372) new confirmed cases with Coronavirus.

“152 of the new cases are Omanis, and 220 are non-Omanis bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases registered in the Sultanate to 6,043 including 27 deaths,” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, as the country continues to see increase in number of Covid-19 cases, all gathering relating to Eid-l-Fir have been banned and violators face fines and jail term as penalty.

As part of efforts to curb the spread of the virus, Eid prayers, livestock auctions, family visits, and group celebrations would be prohibited during the holiday.

In order to ensure compliance, the Royal Oman Police have been authorized to monitor the situation and issue fines and jail for anyone who violates the regulations.

The ministry therefore urged citizens to take precautionary measures and adhere to basic hygiene regulations to remain healthy and safe.

“The Ministry also advices all citizens and residents to keep on washing hands with water and shops, avoid touching face, nose, mouth, and eyes and following the healthy habit when coughing and sneezing,” said the statement.

As of Wednesday, the total number of confirmed cases stood at 6043 with 27 deaths and about 1574 recoveries.
