Nebenzia calls for lifting of unilateral economic measures imposed on Syria

Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, has intensified the call for the lifting of unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people.

While making the call on Wednesday May 20, 2020, during a video session of the UN Security Council regarding the situation in Syria, Nebenzia fiercely criticized the measures, stressing that the report of the United Nations Secretary-General on cross-border humanitarian aid operations did not address the problems arising from the coercive measures imposed on Syria.

He stated that the report only referred to economic problems without talking about the effects of these measures.

He added that the measures are responsible for the suffering of the Syrians in their daily lives and also hinder the fight against the Corona epidemic.

Nebenzia further stressed that any humanitarian operations in Syria must be carried out in cooperation and coordination with its government.

“Russia has demanded for years that a list of partners in the humanitarian aid operation be learned with the knowledge of the Syrian government, but this did not happen, indicating that the terrorists of Al-Nusra Front hinder the arrival of any humanitarian aid to the northwest because they want to take it and steal it,” he said.
