India records 17,000 new cases with 418 deaths in 24 hours

India has recorded its highest 24 hour spike of new coronavirus cases, after its Ministry of Health tweeted a total of 16, 922 positive cases and 418 deaths.

The total number of confirmed cases has risen to 473,105 while number of death recorded has reached 14,894.

The Union Health Ministry of Health and Family Welfare tweeted, “The combined tally includes Positive cases in India stand at 4,73,105 including 1,86,514 active cases, 2,71,697 cured, discharged or migrated and 14,894 deaths.”

Delhi has, meanwhile, surpassed Mumbai as the worst-hit city in the country. Of the four metropolitan cities, Delhi now has the highest number of cases.

India is the fourth worst-hit nation by the pandemic after the US, Brazil and Russia. According to the Johns Hopkins University, which has been compiling COVID-19 data from all over the world, India is at the eighth position in terms of the death toll.

As of Thursday June 25, 2020, Delhi’s coronavirus rose to over 70,390, surpassing Mumbai.
