China has accused the United States of inciting new Cold War as some U.S. politicians take China as a scapegoat to boost their chance of getting elected in the U.S forthcoming November election.
Liu Xiaoming, China’s ambassador to London disclosed this in a statement on Thursday July 30, 2020.
“We have all seen what is happening in the United States, they tried to scapegoat China, they want to blame China for their problems. We all know this is an election year,” Xiaoming said.
Liu further stated that the United States has picked China as a target of trade war, adding that there was no prospect of either side emerging a winner in that sort of game.
While addressing reporters on the issue, Liu said, “It is not China that has become assertive. It’s the other side of the Pacific Ocean who wants to start new Cold War on China. So we have to make response to that.”
“We have no interest in any Cold War, we have no interest in any war,” added Liu.
Meanwhile, President Trump has repeatedly accused China for hiding vital information about coronavirus pandemic which Trump has called China plague.
Liu specifically stated that some U.S politicians were purposefully targeting China for a political reason to give them an advantage of getting elected. He added that part of the plan includes taking China as an enemy.
In his criticism of what he called a move towards a Cold War with China, Liu said, “They want to do anything including treating China as an enemy. Probably they think they need an enemy, they think they want a Cold War but we have no interest, we keep telling America, China is not your enemy, China is your friend, your partner.”
In a response to a question over whether tensions between China and the U.S have worsened beyond repair, Liu said things could still get better as it is never too late to make corrections.
“I don’t think we have passed the point of no return,” Liu said.
Meanwhile, last month, Mike Pompeo, the U.S. Secretary of State also accused China of taking advantage of coronavirus pandemic, adding that the United States was ready to counter China through a global coalition effort.
Similarly, it should be remembered that Liu gave a blunt response to the U.K. Prime Minister, Boris Johnson when the U.K. banned Huawei, a China-owned telecom giant, from its 5G network.
He warned that U.K might face a dire consequence in the future if it dissociates itself from China.
