The Lekki Muslim Ummah, an association of Muslims in the Lekki area of Lagos State, Nigeria, has distributed the sum of N66,776,600 as its 2020 annual Zakkat distribution.
While disclosing the distribution on his Facebook page on Saturday September 19, 2020, Imam Najmuddeen Jimoh stated that the initiative was aimed at relieving congregants at the Lekki Central Mosque.
According to Jimoh, the highest sum of N45,987,500 was used to purchase tricycles for some members of the mosque.
He added that the purchase of the tricycles was in fulfillment of the Association’s poverty alleviation and economic empowerment program.
“The sum of N8,000,000 was awarded to students deserving of scholarships.
“And for the first time ever, the association gave out the sum of N4,275,00 as COVID-19 palliative,” Jimoh said.
He added that health, debt settlement and accommodation support completed the categories for which this year’s Zakat was awarded.
“May Allah continue to bless the donors and everyone connected with the Masjid and open the doors of his rahma to the recipients,” he prayed.
