Saudi Arabia takes lead in Gaza relief efforts with over $115m in donations
In a decisive move to address the critical humanitarian situation in Gaza, Saudi Arabia has emerged as a prominent benefactor, surpassing $115 million in donations to date.
This commitment was notably showcased at the prestigious Paris International Conference to Assist Civilians in Gaza, spearheaded by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Heading the Saudi delegation at the conference was Dr. Aqeel Al-Ghamdi, Assistant General Supervisor for Planning and Development at the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief). Al-Ghamdi, expressing appreciation for France’s initiative, highlighted proposed mechanisms to swiftly deliver essential supplies, encompassing food, pharmaceuticals, and the restoration of energy supply to Gaza.
Saudi Arabia’s dedication to alleviating the unprecedented suffering of defenseless civilians in Gaza stems from a national campaign initiated by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This campaign, aimed at easing the plight of the Palestinian people, has successfully garnered donations exceeding $115 million, with momentum continuing to build.
The Kingdom’s influential global position is underscored by its mobilization of humanitarian and development efforts. Saudi Arabia has implemented a total of 274 projects valued at over $5 billion, with KSrelief alone executing 112 projects totaling approximately $370 million.
Saudi Arabia’s active participation in the Paris conference emphasizes its call for sustained efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Key priorities include lifting the siege, opening border crossings, adhering to international humanitarian law, protecting civilians, and ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of aid to those in need.
