The Libyan suspected to have been involved in the attack on Benghazi US Consulate has been reportedly killed in Egypt’s city of Nasr.
Karim Ahmed Essam el-Azizi, is highly suspected by Egyptian security agencies of having been involved in the September 11 attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi that killed four Americans, including the US ambassador Christopher Stevens
His death followed a raid by Egyptian security forces on his apartment in Nasr.
A security officer in Egypt, Karim Wazil said,’Essam el-Aziz was shot dead last Wednesday along with other militants. The police attacked his group in the eastern of Nasr city .’
He said that police suspected that the group had links to al Qaeda. Several other militants in the group were arrested and are under police detention.
Several firearms and bombs were found in the apartment where he was killed in Nasr City. The group is suspected to have been carrying out several terrorism activities.
The attack on the Benghazi consulate has become a highly politicized issue in the US presidential election campaign. President Barack Obama and other US officials acknowledged that the attack was a terrorist act by militants with suspected links to al Qaeda affiliates.
