Singaporean minister visits Egypt

Singaporean senior Minister of state for home affairs and foreign affairs Masagos Zulkifli has today visited Egypt.

His visit to the north African country is to last up to 9th November 2012. This is the first time he is visiting the country.

Singapore has of recent become an important business partner with most of the African countries. She exports a lot of finished goods to various countries and also export raw materials.

Among the activities he will be involved in is to attend the graduation ceremony of Singaporean students studying in Al-Azhar
Al-Shariff University tomorrow. Over 100 Singaporean students study in Egypt.

He has traveled directly to Egypt from Rome, Italy where he has been attending the 81st Interpol General Assembly.

Since it’s inception in 2009, the graduation ceremony, which is co-organised by the Singapore Embassy in Cairo and Singapore
government has become an annual event.

In conjunction with the graduation ceremony, Masagos will hold talks with the Singaporean students as well as call on the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Shariff, Dr Ahmed Al Tayyeb.

While in Cairo, he will also meet senior Egyptian leaders to explore avenues for enhanced bilateral collaboration. He will interact with
several Egyptian businessmen and educators to exchange views on developments in Egypt and the region.

‘We are happy that the minister has come to attend our graduation ceremony. It will be a big occasion.’ said one of the students, Shilna
Sarawal.
