The governments of Uganda and South Sudan have today signed a bi-lateral agreement that will see the two countries collaborate in issues of trade, security, education and leadership.
The signing of the agreement complements the agreement reached upon by the heads of state of the two countries in their meeting early this year in Uganda’s capital Kampala.
Speaking at the opening ceremony ahead of the signing of the understanding, Uganda’s ICT minister, Ruhakana Rugunda urged South Sudan to aim at transforming their country in all aspects and congratulated them upon attaining self rule.
‘I conratulate you over attaining your independence. Your major objective now should be transforming South Sudan in all aspects. ‘said Rugunda.
South Sudan’s foreign affairs and International Corporation minister, Nhial Deng Nhial welcomed the pact saying it is going to help both countries in transforming their sectors and strengthening their partnership.
However, the state minister for foreign affairs in Uganda, Henry Okello Oryem and the ambassador for regional corporation, James Mugume, welcomed the pact saying it has come at a time when the region is faced with numerous challenges which call for collective fight to over come them.
Currently thousands of Ugandan traders and workers are operating in South Sudan. Likewise, thousands of South Sudanese students are studying in Uganda’s schools and universities.
Ever since South Sudan attained her independence, the trade between the two countries has tremendously increased.
