Last year, Uganda was selected as the top tourist destination for the year 2012 by ‘Lonely Planet’ beating Myanmar and Ukraine which followed closely in the 2nd and 3rd position.
The tourism industry and other business organizations have vowed to increase on the quality of their services in 2013 so that Uganda remains the best destination for tourists in the whole world.

‘We are doing our best at building on Lonely Planet’s promotion of our tourism attractions.’ said tourism department official, Timothy Okello Winyi. ‘We received many tourists in 2012 but hope to get more in 2013.

Uganda also beat seven other countries to the prize that included Jordan, Denmark, Bhutan, Cuba, New Caledonia, Taiwan and Switzerland.

Lonely planet which is the largest travel guide book and digital media publisher in the world annually ranks some of the top favorite destinations according to responses from tourists and bloggers around the world.

‘Uganda is a real beauty’ said Gerald Coleman, a tourist in Uganda during this season. ‘I have enjoyed all what I saw in Bwindi national park and other places I visited in the country. It is a country worth visiting.’ he added.

The amazing tourism experience that Uganda offers as a tourist destination includes the famous mountain gorillas, the amazing chimpanzee tracking experience, the magnificent Murchison Falls on river Nile, a  large diversity of bird species, tree climbing lions  and the mountain hiking experience.

Bwindi impenetrable forest located in western Uganda is home to 55 per cent of the world’s gorilla population. The Murchison falls and queen Elizabeth national parks contain elephants, giraffes, lions and many other wild animals which are worth watching.

The source of the Nile is another tourism attraction in addition to rwenzori moyntau which has snow at the top yet it is near the equator.
