Kenya’s Muslim Leaders Forum has openly come out to support the Coalition for Reform and Democracy (Cord) led by Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka in the forth coming elections.
Kenya is to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in March this year. Raila Odinga is among those standing for presidency. Local opinion polls are already putting him ahead of his rivals.
This is not the first time that the Muslim community is endorsing Raila Odinga for presidency. In December some Muslim leaders also blessed him for the highest office in the country.
The forum’s national coordinator, Farouk Machanje said that the Muslims in Kenya are supporting Raila Odinga and his colleagues because they believe that they have adequate leadership qualities.
He said, ‘We have made careful examination of the choices and identified that Raila Odinga with Cord group are the most suitable to become next leaders of this country.’
He appreciated Odinga for fighting against tribalism, corruption and other evils in Kenya.
‘Odinga has always been with us.’said Muslim cleric Yunus Ouma. ‘We are paying back by supporting him to presidency’.
