Rwandans are happy over news that those using Microsoft products in their country can now be able to navigate the company’s latest operating system in their native language called Kinyarwanda.
It was announced last Friday that Kinyarwanda is one of 14 new languages that have been incorporated into the latest version of Microsoft’s Operating System (OS) Windows 8. That brings the total number of languages compatible with Windows 8 to 109.
Rwanda is one of the few African countries where use of ICT has been broadly embraced. With now including Kinyarwanda, Microsoft is likely to achieve deeper market penetration in a country.
‘I am very happy about Kinyarwada being on the latest version of Microsoft operating system.’ said Javas Habyarimana, a business man in the country’s city, Kigali. ‘It will go a long way in making me improve on my business’ he added.
Rwandan government has always supported its citizens in acquiring computers and learning how to use them. Most schools in the small country teach students on how to use computers.
Rwanda annually invests 5 per cent of its GDP into science and technology which has made her go several steps ahead of other African countries. Most countries in Africa invest between 1 per cent and 3 per cent of their GPD into science and technology.
Apart from Kinyarwanda other new languages that have been included by Microsoft on Windows 8 are, Senegalese Wolof, Ethiopian Tigrinya, and Pakistani Punjabi.
Rwandans have vowed to use the new development in fighting ignorance and poverty.
