A suicide bomber, suspected to be from Al Shabab militants has today killed at lease six Somali soldiers in the country’s capital, Mogadishu after detonating a bomb outside Somali prime minister’s office.
An eyewitness, Karim Farah said, ‘The suicide bomber detonated the bomb while in a group of soldiers. Six soldiers died at the spot and over ten sustained injuries. The injured have been taken to hospital for treatment.’
He said that the area in which the bomb was blasted has been closed to the public. Security officers have been deployed allover the place and are not allowing civilians access .
It is not yet established how the bomber managed to sneak into the group of soldiers. There are reports that the suicide bomber pretended that he had come to visit one of the soldiers.
The prime minister Abdi Farah Shirdon was in his office when the bomb blast went off. It has been confirmed that he did not get harmed.
Somalia has been in turmoil for over two decade with Al Shababa militants supported by Al Quaeda causing mayhem in the country where they killed at will and imposed unbearable leadership to civilians.
With the help of foreign troops under AU, including those from Burundi, Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia, the militants were chased out of Mogadishu and most of Somali towns. Now they have resorted to gorilla war and suicide bombing.
The regime of the newly elected Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, sworn in September 2013 year has vowed to sweep away all militants and bring back sanity to the country.
