Today Kenyans have gone to polls to elect the 4th Kenyan president in a tightly guarded environment at all polling centers.

But although the government had promised that all had been done to avoid the post-elections violence like it happened during the 2007 presidential elections in which over 1000 people were killed and many displaced, already 15 people have been reportedly killed today.

Of those killed, twelve, including six police officers were early today morning killed in ambush in Mombasa and Kilifi Counties. The attackers were over 200 carrying spears arrows and machetes.

Police in Kenya has confirmed the ambush. It said that the ambush was carried out by Mombasa Republican Council followers.

‘We are holding two members of Mombasa Republican Council for interrogation. We are hunting for others.’said the Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo .

The attack on Mombsa has prompted police to deploy more than 350 policemen to maintain law and order.

Three civilians were killed by unknown people in Garissa region. Police is hunting for the killers.
