Angola visited by UN official

The UN High Commissioner for human rights, Navi Pillay has today started her official visit to Angola.Pillay was reportedly invited for the visit by  Angola the government. The visit will last up to 24th April 2013. During her three-day mission, Pillay will meet with the country’s leader, President Eduardo dos Santos, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Justice and Human Rights, Interior, Women and Family Protection and the Attorney General. The High Commissioner will also meet with Angola’s Ombudsman and the President of the Constitutional Court, as well as with members of civil society and the diplomatic corps.  

She will undertake a number of field visits, including one to the Lunda Norte region, near Angola’s border with the Democratic Republic of Congo to meet with local communities and migrants.  

At the end of her visit, on Wednesday 24 April, the High Commissioner will hold a press conference at the Hotel Epic Sana in Luanda.
