Muslims allover the world have been advised to give Zhakat especially during the holy month of Ramadhan.

The advice has been given by the vice chairman of Uganda Muslim Youth assembly, Imam Kasozi, while speaking at an Iftar dinner hosted by Barclay’s bank for its Muslim customers at it’s premises in Kampala.

Kasozi said, ”If Muslims fulfilled Zhakat, which is one of the pillars of Islam, it would help the poor to also get rich through donations from fellow Muslims.”

He said, that Muslims should know that Zhakat is compulsory for those who have amassed wealth.”If you are able to earn a monthly pay close to 1 million Uganda shillings (equivalent of 400 US dollars) it is incumbent upon you to give to the poor.”

He said that there are 5 pillars of Islam including Shahadah, Salat, Sawm, Zhakat and Haji

He said that farmers who can not donate cash can give part of their produce or animals as Zhakat.
