Dromm Marches in First Nepali Day Parade in New York City

On Sunday afternoon, May 22^nd NYC Council Member Dromm joined Nepali Day Parade Convener Luisang Waiba, Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations Representative Sewa Lamsal Adhikari and other Nepali community leaders for NYC’s first Nepali Day Parade, which was organized to celebrate Nepal’s rich heritage and culture, and to promote Nepal’s tourism industry.  The event also served as a commemoration of the 8^th anniversary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, which was a monarchy prior to May 2008.

The parade kicked off at 29^th Street and Broadway.  It terminated at 18^th Street where Nick Gulotta, a representative from Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office presented Waiba and parade organizers with a proclamation from the Mayor.

“I am honored to march alongside my Nepali brothers and sisters in the first Nepali Day Parade,” said Council Member Daniel Dromm (D-Jackson Heights, Elmhurst).  “From its fascinating history to its mouth-watering cuisine, Nepali culture has so much to offer.  I encourage all New Yorkers to become familiar with it.  As a Council Member representing one of the largest Nepali communities in the city, I congratulate the parade organizers and all those who marched down Broadway for this historic occasion.”
