A Symptom of our Sick White Brethren

Washington, DC – The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI), a faith-based coalition of 34,000 churches comprised of 15 denominations and 15.7 million African Americans is horrified of the reaction of some in the animal rights movement who implied that we should have sacrificed the death of a 3-year old black child in order to spare Harambe the Gorilla. Those who advocate that the gorilla should have never been killed, when there was a clear and present danger of the gorilla about to murder a 3-year old child live on national television, can only be considered the most insensitive racial act of man’s inhumanity to a child. How can some white people get to tell us that Harambe the Gorilla has more intrinsic human value than a 3-year old child?  Would they be saying this if the child was white?

This is morally outrageous. The Church will not be silent while this young black child and their parents, who obviously were in the wrong place and under the wrong circumstances found themselves being castigated as the villains.

Rev. Anthony Evans, President of the National Black Church Initiative, “It is sad that the Church has to speak to the basic humanity of this particular tragedy and to continue to correct and instruct some in the white community who feel that the Church should promote humanity of a gorilla instead of a 3-year old child. This type of thinking only makes the church, especially the Black Church, outraged of the depth of their inhumanity to humanity, especially of a 3-year old child. We should not have to teach people the basic morality of life.”

The true villains in this case are those individuals (mainly white liberal animal lovers) advocating that Harambe the Gorilla somehow was the victim in this case. For those who do not understand the authority that God has given men over all animals of the earth,

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.   And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:27-28)

We continue to deal with a fringe group who are mainly white, trying to impose non-scriptural commandments on society and to tell the Church and others what we can believe and what we cannot believe in order to be politically correct. The Church is not in the business of being politically correct, the Church is in the business of saving the souls of humanity and especially those who love animals over and above a 3-year old child.
