New York, NY — This past Saturday, hundreds of Jackson Heights residents, NYC Council Member Daniel Dromm, New Visions Democratic Club President Shekar Krishnan and community activist Len Meniace gathered in front of the Roosevelt Avenue subway station on Saturday morning to join the Women’s March on New York City and to protest the inauguration of Donald Trump. The group consisted of young children, families and friends as well as community leaders.
In solidarity with the Women’s March on Washington and Women’s Marches across the country, more than 400,000 people from the tri-state area participated in this peaceful march to protest the Trump administration and to support women’s equality and human rights. The march kicked off at the United Nations and ended at Trump Tower.
Dromm helped organize and lead the group. He was joined in this effort by Krishnan and Meniace. Despite a delay on the #7 train, the group arrived at the Grand Central stop about an hour later.
Hundreds of thousands of other protesters packed the streets in Manhattan. Despite the huge crowd, many members of the Jackson Heights group managed to stay together.
“I was proud to march alongside hundreds of my Jackson Heights neighbors at the Women’s March on NYC,” said NYC Council Member Daniel Dromm (D-Jackson Heights, Elmhurst.) “Our contingent was truly diverse and included children and seniors, immigrants, Muslims and members of the LGBTQ community. Together we sent a loud and clear message to the Trump administration that we will never stop fighting against their hateful agenda. I remain committed to working with my colleagues in city government to safeguard New York City from any action ”
“Jackson Heights turned out in full force to protest the Trump administration’s anti-equality agenda,” said Shekar Krishnan, president of the New Visions Democratic Club, which is based in Jackson Heights. “It was exhilarating to see everyone unite together in support of human rights. We will continue push back against any attempt to marginalize or divide us.”
Len Meniace added, “Trump and the Republicans had better pay attention to the huge crowds that took to the streets in New York City and across the nation because we are not going away.”
