…and do not desire corruption in the land indeed Allah does not like corrupters….and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption. (Qur’an 28:77)

Over the years, many countries have witnessed a grossly high rate of corruption making many citizens to forget the words of wisdom that says “selflessness is the nearest to purity.” The countries are dominated with men of evil deeds including injustice and corruption which are stimulated in the heart of virtually every ungodly man.

O you who believe, be upright for Allah, bearers of witness with justice and let no hatred of a people incite you not to act equitably. Be just that is nearer to observance of duty and keep you duty to Allah. Surely, Allah is aware of what you do. (Al-maida:8)

However, it is obvious that family is the bedrock of a corruption free nation. The family is the basic unit of every society. It is basically the first contact of every child after birth. Also, it is the first venue where a child learns values, habits, language, norms, behaviour and mental initiations which all together becomes the child’s character.

Talking about family as the bed rock, we have to consider the effect of good and bad families on children. As a matter of fact, a bad family will definitely encourage a corrupt nation as the child tends to learn all possible forms of bad habits which will eventually become part of his character while a good family will encourage the otherwise.

To start with, every good family must instill the remembrance of Allah no matter the amount of wealth or the number of children.

O you who believe, let not your wealth or children divert you from remembrance of Allah. And whoever does that , these are the losers.(Qu’ran 63:9)

This is to say that the remembrance of Allah in whatever we do is very important. A family head that remembers Allah will definitely lead the children to also follow the same steps. However, remembering Allah is associated with some concepts that will encourage children and parents to act against corruption. The first concept is “solat” which is the five times daily prayers. If a family is deeply keen in observing this solat, there is every tendency that the children will be immune to corruption since their hearts are continuously purified.

Secondly, if the family is strict at instilling the habit of selflessness, that family will be immune to corruption. Pointing at the politicians in most countries, the bases for their corrupt acts is selfishness. They tend to think about themselves leaving others to suffer. If a family is rooted with selflessness, it will help to build a child, father or mother with a very strong immune system against corruption.

Also, a family should be built around making children contented with what they have and also making them understand that the love for money can invoke evil into their lives which is where corruption will come to play.

O you who have been believed, indeed many of the scholars and the monks devour the wealth of the people unjustly and avert them from the ways of ALLAH. And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of ALLAH –give them tidings of a painful punishment. (Qu’ran 9:34)

In addition, if a family is groomed on the principle of decency, there will be less corrupt acts in the society. Decency does not only have to do with the mode of dressing, it also involves the manner of approach, the use of words, and the act of doing things. In most cases, a decent child, can be traced to his or her family background. A child who talks rudely, drinks or smokes must have had contact with these negative acts in the family.

If the family creates awareness on the spiritual punishment against bribery, there is every tendency that a child from such family will never get involved in corrupt acts.

And do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly or send it in bribery to the rulers in order that they might aid you to consume a portion of the wealth of the people in sin, while you know, it is unlawful (Qu’ran 2:188)

In addition, an upright family with the knowledge of the consequences of evil act has created miles for the child to have a second thought about corruption.

Indeed, those who devour the property of orphans unjustly are consuming into their bellies fire and they will be burned in a blaze.(Qu’ran 4:10)

It has been confirmed over the years that a child’s attitude is determined by the family. As a matter of fact, most parents do not have time to instill good morals on their children. They are often busy chasing money and believing that the best thing you can give to a child is a good welfare forgetting that good conduct is the most outstanding gift amongst all. However, every family should fasten its seat belt, it is time to eradicate corruption in the society.
