UN, alongside with Republic of Congo’s government and other partners, calls for emergency aid to assist displaced persons in southern Brazaville
D.R.CONGO- Thursday, 20th of July, the United Nations, the Republic of Congo’s Government and humanitarian partners appealed for $23.7 million to aid Congolese in the area of southern Brazzaville known as “the Pool”, where fighting and insecurity has displaced one out of every three people.
This is accordingly reported in a release for United Nations, and brought to the view of the public by African Press Organisation through their press website. It is revealed, therein that there is an urgent need to assist the area of southern Brazzaville as the region is currently troubled.
According to the statement from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA): “The most pressing humanitarian needs are related to food security, nutrition, living conditions, and access to basic health services.”
According to the report, the requested funding, made by national authorities, the UN and 16 other aid partners, would provide emergency humanitarian aid to 138,000 people, if gathered, for the next six months.
The plight of these people, according to details in the release, is really of great concern and a distress on the world. It is stated that these people are vulnerable to attacks, threats, sexual violence, loss or family separation -thus stressing the need for protection.
UN recalled, in the report that, ever since “the violence began in April of last year, more than half of the families in the Pool are hungry, with up to 20 per cent of children under five acutely malnourished.” And, access to quality health care, education and market products have been really limited.
