Different countries have stepped forward to help settle the worrying situation in South Sudan, a young nation that broke in to a war after the bitter separation between the current President Salva Kiir, and his once Vice President Riek Machar.
The battle between the two broke up in 2013, leading to a lot of people losing their lives and several forced to seek refuge in the neighboring countries like Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and others.
On Monday, Hailemariam Dessalegn, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia informed that peace and stability in South Sudan is very crucial to Ethiopia therefore, they are ready to do the needful to see to it that South Sudan regains the peace it once had.
By proving so, the Ethiopian Prime Minister promised that Ethiopia would continue with its already existing commitment towards bringing peace and stability in South Sudan.
Mr. Dessalegn made the promise in the presence of South Sudan’s Petroleum Minister, Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, in a meeting on Monday, under the topic of ways of ensuring peace and security in South Sudan, the war-torn country.
As reported by the Ethiopian News Agency, in the meeting, Mr. Gatkuoth, the South Sudan minister, also delivered a message from Salva Kiir, South Sudan’s President, to Dessalegn.
Hailemariam Dessalgen is reported to be the chairperson of the National Bloc (IGAD). Therefore, President Salva Kiir’s message through Mr. Gatkuoth to him was about the implementation of the forum South Sudan signed with IGAD, in 2015.
“The South Sudanese government is implementing the forum as it promised and the aim of the forum is to restore peace and stability in the country,” Gatkouth said, delivering President Kiir’s message.
“For us, Ethiopia is a strategic country and a partner. We will always continue to rely on Ethiopia for all things that could happen in South Sudan. It is Ethiopia that brought and will bring peace and stability to South Sudan,” added Gatkouth, to the message.
At this point, it is reported that the Ethiopian Prime Minister urged the South Sudanese government to solve the country’s problems in a more mature and inclusive manner, with an aim of restoring full peace and stability in South Sudan.
The Prime Minister also noted that Ethiopia would not let South Sudan sink in to total crisis.
