Pornography, abbreviated as porn, is the exposure of sexual parts of a person for the purpose of sexual arousal. Pornography is widely spread through media like; Youtube, WhatsApp, Facebook and many others. It is also presented in magazines, paintings, video games among others.

In a bid to put a stop on the alarming repercussions of pornography which the Ugandan Ethics Minister listed as, escalating cases of drug abuse among the youths, incest, abortion, teenage pregnancy, defilement, rape, lesbianism and homosexuality, Uganda decides to buy a porn detector.

Fr. Simon Lokodo, Uganda’s State Minister of Ethics and Integrity informed journalists that Uganda is yet to bring in an $88,000 porn detection machine which is expected to help in fighting what the Minister termed as the ‘deadliest moral disease.’

The Minister informed that the machine will operate in computers, phones and television stations.

He added that whoever will be caught with a pornographic video in any of the devices, selling them or in any contact with anything pornographic, will be sentenced to serve 10 years in jail, however, television stations that will be tapped filming the videos will be closed permanently.

Mr. Lokodo however did not explain the details of how the machine will exactly detect who will be using or in contact with pornographic materials, though some people insinuate that it might filter content access through Ugandan ISPs.

“We want to appreciate the fact that science has brought us this improvement and development of technology. Unfortunately, this has been misused in a way that instead of using technology for a good purpose, it has been diverted to the use of pornography,” explained Fr. Lokodo.

“The telephones, televisions and radios, now are no longer used for the purpose for which they were meant – communication. They are now for dirty stories,” he added, expressing his concern.

Speaking all of this, the Ethics and Integrity Minister had attended an inauguration ceremony for the new recruits of the Pornography Control Committee in Uganda (PCC), on Monday.

Nine members including Charles Dalton Oponya, Hafswa Kabaganza, Victoria Ssentamu among others were all inaugurated in the committee.

“Pornography has unfortunately taken over almost the whole nation. Therefore, the role of this committee is very wide,” Mr. Lokodo explained to the new recruits.

The Pornography Control Committee is working directly under the Anti pornography act signed by the Ugandan parliament in 2014. The committee has also been allocated 2 billion Ugandan Shillings, per year.

However, not all Ugandans have welcomed the idea. Some Ugandans have informed that the government still has better and urgent things that it would have spent money on, other than buying the porn detector machine.

They have disclosed that the government can hardly now pay off its workers, there is no or very little medicines in the government hospitals, more schools need to be built, but then ‘the machine!’

Reports have shown that the Ugandan government bought the porn detector machine from South Korea.
