Kenya’s Raila Odinga announces swearing in D-Day
After several internal and international inquiring carried out by Kenya’s opposition, NASA political party – as they explained it, the party leader has finally announced what he said is the final day for his swearing in ceremony.
Despite all the threats and warnings from the ruling Jubilee party, led by the President, Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga says that he is more than ready to swear in as the People’s President, together with Kalonzo Musyoka, as his Vice President.
Speaking in Kakamega County on Sunday 7, December 2018, Raila revealed and vowed that he would be sworn in on January 30, 2018, without fail.
It had earlier been reported that the government of Kenya said would arrest Mr. Odinga and his VP, Mr. Kalonzo, and accuse them of treason, if they will swear in. However, Mr. Odinga as he made his announcement, dared anyone to touch them.
‘On January 30, I will be sworn in and this time it’s a real deal and anyone saying its treason let him come and arrest us. The event is not only about carrying the Bible and saying “I swear”, we want to make it real. We want this swearing-in process to be inclusive of all Kenyans. That’s why we are discussing before we go ahead,’ said Raila.
Raila’s inaugural announcement was made as part of the speech he gave as he addressed a crowd that joined him to celebrate his 73rd birthday.
Mr. Odinga arrived in Kakamega Sunday morning accompanied by Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula among other NASA leaders for the People’s Assembly session.
The opposition leaders and supporters in the Western region surprised the opposition leader with a cake in celebration of his 73rd birthday.
Last week on Thursday, NASA, the opposition party said that the committee to swear in Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka was already working and would be unveiled. Mr. Odinga had also earlier revealed that it will be the People’s Assembly that will see him through swearing in.
‘We are of course alive to the fact that the public is very eager to hear about the swearing in of the People’s President and Deputy President. This is on course. It will be the biggest public event that Kenya has seen since independence. An Assumption of Office Committee, which is already in place and working, will be unveiled in the coming days, and that Committee will be keeping you informed,’ read part of a statement by the Organizing Committee of the People’s Assembly then.
