It is 19 years now since the President of the Pearl of African country, Uganda, last signed death warrants for the execution of some criminals. However, reports quoted him as saying that he would sign the warrants again.
According to the local reports, Yoweri Museveni, the President, said would sign a few death warrants again, to create fear among the law breakers in the East African country.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony for prison wardens in Kampala, the country’s capital, on Thursday, 18 January 2018, the President revealed that he had not ordered executions in 19 years but was changing his mind because people were taking advantage of the “leniency.”
‘I am going to revise this and hang a few… if you see how they kill people, they really deserve to be killed too,’ Mr. Museveni informed.
Reports show that President Museveni had last signed death warrants in 1999 and then, 28 people were executed.
At the moment, 278 prisoners are on a death row, says the Uganda Prison’s Service.
