South Sudan inaugurates transitional government

South Sudan has inaugurated a transitional government.

The governments of the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and the Kingdom of Norway disclosed this in a statement on Saturday 22nd February, 2020.

“The formation of South Sudan’s Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity is a spirit of continuous collaboration,” the statement reads

It equally notes that the citizen and civil society supported the move.

The group, therefore, congratulated the people of South Sudan and the parties to the agreement on the resolution of the conflict in the South Sudan.

“This is an opportunity for the leaders to develop the country.  Not only that, it is a good move towards peace. And it will help achieve progress on security, reform agenda, transitional justice and accountability. Meanwhile, it is a preparation for credible and safe elections,” the statement continues.

The statement continues that Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) will serve a guarantor of the R-ARCSS.
