The sanctions imposed on the republic of Iran by the US government has prevented the country from rendering help to the US.

According to a statement by a senior Iranian official
“Sanctions against Iran do not allow the Iran to provide assistance to Americans against coronavirus.”

In a tweet released by Mostafa Mirsalim, a lawmaker and member of the Expediency Council, he expressed sympathy for the Americans affected by the virus and unable to get adequate treatment due to lack of facilities.

“We sympathize with the citizens of America who have been struggling with the coronvirus crisis due to a lack of facilities. But, it is a pity that the unfair sanctions imposed by the vengeful government of America prevent us from helping,” he stated.

The Iran has on many occasions offered to help the US with the fight against the virus but has been turned down.

The government insisted that any help from the US to fight the coronavirus will also be rejected.

On Sunday 29th March, 2020, the Iran’s Basij force converted the former US embassy in Tehran into a mask production workshop and also offered to send medical supplies to America for those who need.

Corps Maj. Gen. Hossein Salami, the head of the Revolutionary Guard, had previously offered to help the US against the coronavirus.

“I say to the US officials that if the people of America need help, we are ready to help them, but we do not need their help.” Salami said.
